What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is an intensive form of yoga,

awakening the body, mind, and spirit. It

focuses on the chakra system, stimulating

the energy in the lower centers and moving

it to the higher centers. From your very first

class, you'll experience the benefits, which

include relief from back pain, stress, addiction,

depression, insomnia and weight control.

Everyone can do it! To read what students are

saying about Kundalini Yoga, click here.

How is it similar to other forms of yoga?

Like other yogas, it links movement with breath.

The way it differs is its direct focus on moving

energy through the chakra system, stimulating the

energy in the lower chakras and moving to the

higher chakras. The chakras are energy centers,

seven in total, located beginning at the base

of the spine and ending at the base of the spine.

An eight chakra exists in Kundalini Yoga, which is

the electromagnetic field, sometimes called "aura."

What is Kundalini?

The word comes from the root word kundal in Sanskrit, which means "the lock of the hair from the beloved."

The uncoiling of this "hair" is the awakening of the kundalini, the unlimited potential that already exists in every

human.  The aura is thought to be strengthened through the practiceof Kundalini Yoga.  Kundalini Yoga awakens

the energy that resides in the spine by activating the nerve channels that are intertwined there.   Although it is

quite physical, its main benefit is derived from the inner experience.

Who can take Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini Yoga is for everyone!  It is appropriate for beginners as well as advanced students of any yoga or

fitness discipline.  Modifications are provided in class for those with physical limitations.   Students are

encouraged to work at whatever level that is good for them.

What is a Kundalini Yoga class like?

After a series of warm-up exercises to limber up your spine and muscles, you will be led through a kriya.

A kriya is a set of active asanas which focus on a certain aspect of your mental, emotional or physical  state.

Examples of kriyas include  "To Relieve Inner Anger"  and "Let the Liver Live." Throughout the practice, you will

be focusing on breath work and energy flow.

You will use the powerful "Breath of Fire," which has the benefits of activating brain cells, strengthening nerve

function and increasing oxygen delivery to every cell of your body.  After the kriya, you will  experience a guided

relaxation.   A short meditation ends the class.  In a Kundalini Yoga class you will breathe, move, stretch,   meditate,

and relax, and most of all have fun!

What can Kundalini Yoga do for me?

Kundalini Yoga has been said to work 16 times faster than other forms of yoga due to the intense breathing practices

and energy work.  You can feel results in as little as 3 minutes. You will become more flexible, increase your

cardio-vascular fitness, achieve weight and stress management, and increase your energy level.  It works by

activating the flow of energy, in particular along the spine.  You will have an increase in your energy levels, making

you feel better after practicing just one of these powerful kriyas.  Habits that no longer serve you can fall away more

easily with the practice of Kundalini Yoga.   The gift of Kundalini Yoga for me has been the gift of sustained energy

throughout my day.  It has also improved my spiritual life due to the meditative aspect of the practice.  I continue to

be amazed by the on-going benefits of my practice of Kundalini Yoga.   Yogi Bhajan says that everyone has the right

to be "Healthy, Happy, and Holy."  With Kundalini Yoga, you have a method of achieving your goals
